Hail All,
Due to upcoming events, my time will be limited. As a result, I have decided to step
aside. I am not leaving the guild. I will continue as an active member
and look forward to many long seasons adventuring beside you.
That means there's a new sheriff in town. He's short and he likes his ale ... but he'll
make a fine leader. :)
All hail McTaggard! The new Elder of the Ancients. Please help me in welcoming to
the position.
Cheers!

| The Beginning |
quote:
"With all due respect, sir, I'd like some answers. Who are these
Ancients? How was my father connected with them, and why did that get him
killed? Who's this Vonerec character, and where can I find him?" Daut
looked like he was struggling with which question to ask next, but instead he just sank
into a chair next to Xyzzyx. "I always thought my father was a simple wheat
farmer. I know he had some powerful friends, though. Did you know my father
back in Aundair?"
Xyzzyx thought about the questions for a while before answering Daut. He looked at the
young man with a certain sadness.
The Ancients are what you see around you. The Ancients are the hearth fire on a
winter's day. The Ancients are water in the desert. The Ancients are the shield that stops
the black blade. How's that for cryptic?
Hmm, I see by your expression you're not to happy with my explanation. Fair enough, I
never liked it much either.
"The Ancients" were the secret (albeit benificent) legions of the Kings of
Galifar. I'm one of the last living members, perhaps the only living member, of the
original force. The Ancients, like the kingdom, fractured when three scions of King
Jarot challenged the rite of succession. Many of us returned to our homeland. Thus, I
went back to Aundair and eventually became a general in her army ... but I refused to
let the truth of the Ancients die. I shared my secret with the most worthy soldiers
in the hope that when I passed, a new order of Ancients would arise to look after good
people in a troubled world.
Yes, I knew your father. He was a special forces soldier before he took up
"wheat farming". He was one of the new order. He should have been here ... not
me. My time should have run out long ago, but the powers that be have a
dark sense of humor. They take the young ones and leave an old husk like me.
Xyzzyx frowned. He suddenly looked very tired and old. Older than a human had a right
to be ...
As for Vonerec, he's a necromancer and an adversary of the Ancients. I don't know
where you can find him but I will soon. I'm afraid you'll have to stay your hand for the
time being. You'll have your vengence ... when the time is right.
